Goa Revolution Day Run

The Department of Physical Education organised the Goa Revolution Day Run covering a distance of 74 kms from Mollem border ( East Goa) to Vasco (West Goa). The Run was to create awareness of the benefits of Running and walking for the development of immunity especially during this covid 19 pandemic times. There were 15 members from the Karuna football foundation who partnered with the College and was started at 5.45 am in a relay format from Mollem to cover the distance through Dharbandora, Ponda, Borim, Loutolim, Cortalim, Chicalim to Vasco.

The Run was in response to the research which clearly states that human immune system is a highly intricate network of cells and molecules designed to keep the human free from infection and disease. Exercise is known to have a significant impact on the normal functioning of the immune system. It’s a known fact that through walking and running helps cardiorespiratory fitness and performing regular exercise of moderate- to vigorous-intensity exercise by maintaining various protocols has been shown to improve immune responses to vaccination, lower chronic low-grade inflammation, and improve various immune markers in several diseases. This days it is becoming more difficult to many of us to have restricted access to the gyms and parks where we would normally undertake exercise and physical activity regimens.
Therefore as organisers we were careful to take all precautions of social distancing and had the run in a relay format where each runner covered approximately a km and then handed over the run to another runner to continue and so on and hence each one ran between 4-6 kms depending upon their fitness level.

Betty D’Silva Director of Physical Education of the College started with the Run at the Mollem border early morning. There were not many people encouraged to participate keeping in mind the restrictions that are in place due to the pandemic.
